Frequently asked questions
What is a weighted grade?
A weighted grade is a grade where some work counts more than other work. For example, tests might be worth 40% of your grade and homework only 20%.
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each category score by its weight, add the results, then divide by the total weight. With a 90 in homework (20%) and an 80 in tests (80%), the grade is (90 x 20 + 80 x 80) / 100 = 82%.
My weights do not add up to 100. Is that okay?
Yes. If you only fill in the work you have finished so far, the calculator shows your grade for that part of the class and tells you how much of the grade it covers.
Where do I find the weights?
Look in your syllabus or your online gradebook. Teachers usually list them as percentages, like "Tests 40%".
